JUDr. Miroslav Lajčák (* 20. marec 1963, Poprad) je slovenský diplomat rusínskeho pôvodu. V rokoch 2006 – 2009 zastával funkciu vysokého predstaviteľa pre Bosnu a Hercegovinu. Od 4. apríla 2012 zastáva v druhej vláde Roberta Fica funkciu podpredsedu vlády a ministra zahraničných vecí Slovenskej republiky.

 

Politická činnosť

V roku 1988 začal pracovať na česko-slovenskom ministerstve zahraničia. Medzi rokmi 1991 a 1993 pracoval na veľvyslanectve v Moskve, najprv na česko-slovenskom a neskôr slovenskom. Medzi rokmi 1993 a 1994 bol šéfom kabinetu slovenského ministerstva zahraničia. V rokoch 1994 a 1998 bol slovenským veľvyslancom v Japonsku, medzi rokmi 2001 a 2005 podobnú funkciu zastával i vo vtedajšej Juhoslávii (Srbsku a Čiernej Hore od roku 2003), Albánsku a Macedónsku.

 

Od 30. júna 2007 vystriedal vo funkcii vysokého predstaviteľa pre Bosnu a Hercegovinu Christiana Schwarz-Schillinga. 16. decembra 2007 mu najväčší bosniansko-srbský denník Nezavisne novine udelil ocenenie Osobnosť roka. O takmer dva týždne neskôr, 28. decembra, mu titul Osobnosť roka udelil aj denník bosnianskych moslimov Dnevni Avaz.

 

26. januára 2009 ho prezident Ivan Gašparovič vymenoval za nového ministra zahraničných vecí SR namiesto Jána Kubiša. Miroslav Lajčák zároveň naďalej pôsobil vo fukcii vysokého predstaviteľa pre Bosnu a Hercegovinu. Vo funkcii vysokého predstaviteľa ho vystriedal v marci 2009 Valentin Inzko.

Miroslav Lajčák (born on 20 March 1963 in Poprad, Czechoslovakia) is a Slovak diplomat.

 

Political career

He joined the Czechoslovak foreign ministry in 1988. Between 1991 and 1993 Lajčák was posted to the Czechoslovak and subsequently the Slovak embassy in Moscow. Lajčák was Slovakia’s ambassador to Japan between 1994 and 1998. Between 1993 and 1994 he served as the chef de cabinet of Slovakia’s then Foreign Minister and later Prime Minister, Jozef Moravčík. Between 2001 and 2005, Lajčák was based in Belgrade as Slovakia’s Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (later Serbia and Montenegro), Albania and the Republic of Macedonia. He was the EU's supervisor to the 2006 Montenegrin independence referendum.

 

On 30 June 2007 Lajčák became the High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina/EU Special Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina succeeding Christian Schwarz-Schilling to the post. He kept this post until March 2009. On 16 December 2007 he received the Person of the Year award from one of the largest Bosnian dailies "Nezavisne novine". Two weeks later, on 28 December, he was awarded the same title by another Bosnian daily "Dnevni Avaz".

 

On 26 January 2009 Lajčák became the Foreign Minister of Slovakia in the Fico's First Cabinet, until July 2010. In December 2010 he was appointed as Managing Director for Russia, Eastern Neighbourhood and the Western Balkans in the EU's External Action Service. He served until April 2012.

 

In April 2012 he was named, as independent, the Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister in the Fico's Second Cabinet. He is fluent in English, German, Russian, Bulgarian, as well as Serbian, Bosnian and Croatian language. Lajčák's second wife Ja. mila Lajčáková-Hargašová (sk) is a TV news presenter.
